Life's Lesson

Over and over again we have learned that in life one must be open to new experiences. This was the case on our last jewelry buying trip. In planning this trip we were a little, shall we say, burnt out. Our enthusiasm had waned, and we had little hope of finding truly new and exciting designs. Ever hopeful we persevered. As we shopped the exhibition, a new designer approached us. At first we were reluctant to even look at her designs. But a little voice inside repeated.,,"Don't be close minded, don't be close minded." And this time we not only heeded the warning, but we were enormously rewarded.

We were introduced to the magnificent, (we truly mean magnificent) and creative designs of Paula Crevoshay. Crevoshay combines unique and rare gemstones into transformable jewelry. Most items have multiple uses. Such as a brooch that can also be worn as a pendant or a bracelet. The designs are executed superlatively. She collaborates with master stone carvers throughout the world, hence each gemstone is unique in design and exquisite in beauty.

What's even more impressive is that Crevoshay is the only jewelry designer, we know, who has been commissioned by THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE for a permanent exhibition. Many of her designs have been exhibited in various other museums. When wearing a CREVOSHAY design, one is truly wearing a museum masterpiece.

We invite you to visit the gallery to see these one of a kind designs. Hold them in different light. Feel their fine finishing. But mostly it's a special experience to see work of this caliber. We look forward to seeing you soon.

AN AMAZING RESPONSE

We are astounded that we are having an amazing response to the Retrospective of ALEXANDER RUTSCH. Having been in the art business for many years now, we realize that most collectors require time to make a decision about a painting that they will live with for a long time. Often a client will revisit the piece more than once. We totally understand that. But with this exhiition by Alexander Rutsch, which hasn't officially opened yet, the response has been extraordinary!

We always try to analyze the pros and cons of each show. Why is this one receiving such a strong positive response? What we have been able to discern thus far is that his appeal seems to be intensely palpable. His subjects though not uniqe, are truly also not mundane. Each individual has a personal perception to each painting, and the perception will vary dramatically. We are surprised to find both artists and lay people standing for long periods of time before each work. What is it they are deriving? Come see for yourself. Perhaps you will share your response as well.

The opening reception is:

The Art of Alexander Rutsch:

We were first introduced to the Art of Alexander Rutsch by our dear friend, former NFL running back, and current Superstar sports agent / Ford model / expert celebrity fitness consultant Sean James (pictured below).

Sean mentioned that the father of a close friend had been world famous artist, and knowing that we are always on the lookout for top artists he suggested we take a look at the work. Well needless to say we were quite impressed. We immediately set out to present a retrospective of his work.

The world of art and jewelry can be one of the most exciting careers. The romance, the creativity, the beauty and the joy involved make us all appreciate how lucky we are to be here. We are thrilled to be presenting this very special collection of Rutsch’s work.

His paintings have been collected and admired even by other artists such as Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso. Picasso believed Rutsch's work to be so excellent that he even counter signed several.

In his work Alexander Rutsch combines force and poetry with a spontaneous and gestural manner of painting.

His works are in a large number of museums and collections such as:

Musee d'Art in Paris
Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna
Museum of Modern Art, NYC
New Orleans Museum of Art

and others.

He is in the collections of:

Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis,
Baroness Alex de Rothschild
Sammy Davis Jr.
Salvador Dali,
Walter Cronkite,
Jacques Charrier, France,
Barbara D'Arcy,

and many others.

Entering the gallery and being surrounded by these very sensual paintings sets us off to a great start of the day. Our regret is that we never knew Alexander Rutsch in person. His paintings reflect a unique and exciting man.

The Globalization of Romance:

Over the years we have had the pleasure of walking hundreds of couples through the process of selecting their engagement rings and wedding bands.

For many years now we have observed the growing trend toward destination weddings.

However, recently there seems to be something new happening. . .a trend toward international romance.

More and more couples are visiting us where either one or both of them are from different countries (other than the United States). Of course upon reflection that is not really surprising given the high numbers of international travelers and young people in search of international living experiences.

There are many days here at our Soho gallery that if you were to close your eyes, and just listen to the languages and accents being spoken you might think you were at the United Nations.

It is really fun being a part of this joyous unifying process as couples plan their weddings, bringing their families and friends together from places all over the globe. It's almost as if Belenky Brothers is doing their very small part in the solidarity of nations.

Just another indicator that love has no borders!

For The First Time!

After our many buying trips, we are sometimes a little, shall we say, "jaded". After all, we have traveled the world in search of unique, finely designed jewelry. What's new, we ask? It's almost impossible to imagine what can be innovative and very exciting.

But this year, we experienced one of our most exciting sales. We have always sold amazing, fine and even extrememly large diamonds. And we all agree that it is still a thrill to see these magnificent stones. We have also become aware of the mining of rarer colors in diamonds. After Jennifer Lopez, most of us know about pink diamonds, and of course the yellow and even blue. Many jewelers go a lifetime without ever seeing a red diamond, since they are difficult to obtain. One retailer said he waited six months just to see one.

All of us at Belenky were very proud to be able to sell a magnificent and very rare red diamond. There are only about thirty documented in the entire world. Now that is REALLY exciting!
